Hai-Quan Mao, PhD

Hai-Quan is Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, Associate Director of the Institute of NanoBioTechnology (INBT), and a co-founder of LifeSprout. He holds a joint appointment in the Translational Tissue Engineering Center at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Hai-Quan’s foundational work engineering novel biomaterials to support tissue restoration and regenerative cell therapy serves as the intellectual underpinning of LifeSprout. His laboratory has also established materials assembly platforms for controlled production of nanotherapeutics to deliver DNA, RNA and protein therapeutics. Hai-Quan currently serves as an Associate Editor of the journal Biomaterials. He is a member of the National Academy of Inventors, currently holds 24 U.S. patents and is a co-inventor of a dozen US patent applications. He has published more than 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts. He has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.
